English and Read Write Inc

Mrs Smart’s group

Do you like cooking? When we do cooking we need to follow a recipe.
A recipe is a set of instructions in the correct order.
You need to use time connectives – First, then, next, after, finally.

Today in your workbooks I would like you to write a set of instructions for making chocolate crispy cakes!

…Then you can follow your own instructions and eat the cakes! Yum!

Miss Aitken’s group
Today’s sound is “ire” as in “Fire! Fire!”
This is a bit tricky as it has 3 special friends!

Practise these spellings with today’s focus sound “ire”:
1) wire 2) inspire 3) tired

Write these 2 sentences in your book:
1) My hair is very messy.
2) She has got long hair.

Miss Tranham’s group
Today’s sound is: ‘ow’ “blow the snow
Practise these spellings 1) sow  2) grow  3) snow

Write these 3 sentences in your book: On the bed. In the car. The dog is out.

Mrs Fetherston’s group
Today’s focus sound is “er” as in “better letter” . Please explain: double consonant e.g. letter, hammer, ladder…in the middle of some words that end in ‘er’. This sounds similar to yesterday’s sound ‘ur’ (nurse with a purse) but uses different letters. ‘ur’ is usually the middle sound of a word, but “er” NORMALLY goes at the end of the word. Use this knowledge to decide which of the sounds spells a word. E.g. Tern? Turn. Hammur? Hammer.

Focus sound: ‘er’ “better letter” Spellings 1) ladder,    2) her    3) better

Big Write – write a letter to a relative telling them what home learning is like and what you think about it.

Mrs Smith’s group
Sound of the day: ‘ai “snail in the rain”
