  • Videos from Arts Week

    Published 02/04/22, by Admin

As part of Arts Week Team Holloway learned a Ghanian call and response song, Che Che Koolay. Call and response is a key feature of African music and is great fun to do in class.

We also learned the story of The Leopard's Drum complete with actions devised by the children. I was so proud of their performance of it!

We also filmed our drama Savannah scene that we did with Mr Williams.

As if that wasn't enough, we also filmed our wonderful song about being happy.

    Enjoy!

We had a brilliant time in our storytelling workshop. The children contributed ideas for a story about a lion coming into our school and our storyteller created a story just for us. It was absolutely hilarious! As k your child to try and retell it to you.

We enjoyed an action-packed musical theatre workshop with Miss Spurrier. It was all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza (complete with 'jazz hands') to Hakuna Matata. Not only did we perform altogether, many of us were brave enough to perform on our own or in small groups for the rest of the class. What a talented bunch!

Team Holloway had a brilliant time making our own stop-motion animations with Mr Brown. Against some simple but effective backgrounds, we used silhouettes of birds and animals to create our animations. We loved this activity!

Today in English we made some puppets to help us write part of our play scripts later in the week. In groups we made the different characters from The Leopard's Drum - Osebo the Leopard, Nyame the Sky God, Python, Elephant, Monkey and Tortoise. We thoroughly enjoyed making them and can't wait to bring them to life!

Another incredible morning in Arts' week! We enjoyed a drama session with Mr Williams where we recreated the African savannah, using our voices for the sounds and our bodies for the animals and environment.  It was tremendous fun and the children were so creative in interpreting the different elements. See some photos from our drama workshop in the attachment.

This week we are basing our writing on The Leopard's Drum, an Asante tale from Ghana. Leopard has a magnificent drum, but he doesn't want anyone to share it.

We drew pictures of drums and made a story map of the key points in the story.
