Today we looked at the Buddhist festival of Songkran. It is the celebration of the New Year, a time when the rivers flood, bringing new life to the fields and allowing the crops to grow. We found out that water is an important part of these celebrations and that people race dragon boats on the rivers. We made our own paper ‘dragon boats’, just like Buddhist children would do during the festival.

In our drama workshop led by Mr Williams, we performed scenes from the Lion King and took on the role of different characters. We also learned how to 'space' properly on a stage as well as focused on the movement and behaviour of Pumba, Scar and Narla. Pumba, in particular, was a lot of fun to act!
Today, we found out all about the rhythms of djembe drumming from Burkina Faso. Richard, from Rich Rhythms, was amazed at just how good we all were. All those amazing music lessons in our RAPS Arts curriculum have led to some talented drummers!
