Monkton Nature Reserve

We had a fabulous day yesterday with Anna and Liz!

What a day! The children thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Monkton yesterday!

We engaged with a variety of activities:

Bug Hunts:

We used special equipment to capture bugs safely and observe them, then put them back safely in their environments.

Pond Dipping:

Anna and Liz showed us how to pond dip safely, observing what different creatures are in the pond. We then looked in trays and identified the creatures, the most exciting being the newts, and identified whether they were male or female and what stage of their life cycle they were in.

Nature Walk:

We went for a walk around the reserve, spotting different figures. We almost spotted them all but Miss Maclean and Mrs Pilcher took a wrong turn so we may have missed a few...

Museum:

We were fascinated by all the artefacts in the museums, particularly the skulls and the taxidermised animals.

The children have been sent home with a leaflet today about the activities Monkton offer during the holidays so definitely have a look!

Thank you to our parent helpers who joined us!
