Published 18/11/16, by AdminIn guided reading the children have continued with ‘Clockwork’ – a clever and engaging read about how lives can be entwined and a series of events can become almost unstoppable. This week the children have looked at the expression in the text, as well as discussing vocabulary choices and the effect of specific word choices on the reader. When we have had to stop, the children have made insightful and text-based predictions of what may occur next.

Reading Records
Published 18/11/16, by AdminALL children are expected to bring in both their reading record and their reading books EVERY morning and take them home every afternoon. We will be reading with individual children on a regular basis and therefore it is very important that they have these books with them all the time. Children should read regularly at home to an adult, so please write down in their log what pages they have read and when. If they have finished their book, we would encourage them to change the books themselves. They are in clearly-labelled baskets at the side of the classroom.

Published 11/11/16, by AdminIn guided reading the children have begun to explore the novel ‘Clockwork’ by Phillip Pullman. In particular, the focus has been on the language that has been used to describe the characters and settings, as well as to create atmosphere and tension.
In their writing they have continued to develop sentence building techniques and have begun to look at recount writing ahead of a recount piece on Friday based on the trip to the Houses of Parliament. In the coming weeks the children will be using this visit to write campaign speeches for House captains, whilst exploring the key British value of democracy.
