Maths Songs

A small insight into our maths lessons...

This week we have been looking at one more/one less. We've been using the 'tens frame', pictured, to help us work out the answer. A tens frame is pretty much what it says it is, a frame with 10 spaces. We use counters to represent the values and we are learning that if the top row is full then we know that means 5.

We've been singing songs and adding the correct amount to the frame, some examples of songs that are one less, so go down in value: 5 little speckled frogs, 5 little monkeys, 10 green bottles, 10 in a bed, 5 currant buns.

Examples of songs that gp up in value, one more, is tricker - I would love any suggestions of any you know of! Currently we have: one man went to mow, crocodile splash.

I've attached a couple of pages of suggestions for adult led learning - just so you have an idea of what we get up to in class. If any children like to play schools at home then you could always use some of these ideas.

As always, let me know if you want any more information or have any questions!
