Today, we went to Dinky Town! The trip was a resounding success. Personally, I flew to Australia and Ibiza, and dropped some sheep off in New Zealand on the way. I had dinner in a diner (a smoothie and stew), I tried to give advice to a mother who thought it was a good idea to put her baby in a tree-house, I did some shopping, and narrowly avoided getting run other (multiple times) by a rouge digger driver. Ask your children what they did or where they went...hopefully, like myself, they avoided jail.
Anyone who has perused the RAPS blogs will have become aware of the musical sensation that is; Green Room/Blue Room. After numerous successful performances and an unprecedented bidding war, the band signed with RAPS recordings. On the Team Jones blog you can hear some of the bands back-catologue and learn about the drama surrounding the musical sensations. Blue room recently undertook a writing retreat to work on new material for their upcoming debut album (which has been delayed due to their gruelling Christmas touring/release schedule). The session was fruitful, and a demo of 'We Are Eating Dinner' was recently leaked on the Team Jones blog. The blue room kids came up with the idea and wrote the words. Ask them what similarities a guitar has to a human and what they string names are (not B or E as we haven't learnt them yet!)
We will go to Dinky Town on Tuesday. If you are considering volunteering and haven't confirmed yet, please let the office know by Email or in person on Monday. Parents for Team Spurrier would need to arrive and be at the office reception by 9.15 and parents for Team Jones would need to arrive and be at the office reception by 10.15.
This week we learnt about firefighters, lifeguards and the coastguard. We did some amazing science experiments alongside the lessons. We predicted which materials would put out a fire and then tested them. Water and Sand were the clear winners but ask your child about which materials didn't work (paper and wood) and which object was surprisingly effective (a tiny frying pan from our home corner!). Our second experiment involved testing whether objects float or sink. A surprising amount of objects floated, even our good friend the plastic bear floated which surprised all the children and staff who predicted it would sink. Thankfully our much loved black stone came to save the day; sinking impressively. This allowed the class lifeguard (one of the children's colour changing plastic toys) to dive in and save the poor stone, allowing it to be used once again to represent numbers in maths!
(Due to the high octane, high pressure scientific environment, we forgot to document these experiments).
I (Mr Jones) taught half of blue room's maths this week. The class were a joy to teach, and we had fun looking at positional language and the number 4 and 5. We learnt lots of words relating to positional language and played lots of games where either our good friend, Fred the frog, our good friend the plastic bear, or the children themselves moved around learning the words. We did lots of counting, subitising and also represented 4 and 5 in many ways. My favourite was drawing an animal with 4 legs and labelling the legs.
We are SO excited to perform to you all!
