The Polar Regions

Our topic lessons have continued in the afternoons, with us looking in depth at the polar regions...

The children were presented with lots of information regarding both the Arctic and the Antarctic and were tasked with considering the similarities and differences between the two. For example, whilst they are both obviously freezing, the average temperature in the Antarctic is -60 compared to (just!) -40 degrees Celsius in the Arctic. Also, technically, the Arctic is an ocean surrounded by land, whereas the Antarctic is land (one of the Earth's continents) surrounded on all sides by the ocean!

Finally, we looked at how climate change is affecting both of these regions and designed posters to raise awareness of the issue – a selection of which are visible in the image.
