🚀 A Very Special Visitor and a Space Song Surprise!

Are there dog treats on the Moon?
We were very lucky to welcome a Reception parent, Charlie, into school to perform a very special song he wrote all about Laika, the very first dog in space.
The children loved joining in, listening carefully and learning the words. It linked beautifully to our Space learning and sparked lots of thoughtful questions and conversations.
Charlie’s song is called Dog Treats on the Moon, and we have added the full lyrics below so the children can sing it to you at home.
🐶 Dog Treats on the Moon (Laika)
Are there dog treats on the Moon
For Laika, the very first dog in space?
Do the aliens on Saturn throw a ball for her?
And she runs rings around them
Rings around them all
Moscow 1954
The Space Race and the Cold War
A street dog by an old wood door
Called Laika
She bounded up the landing strip
Of Sputnik 2 to take her trip
Not sure where that rocket ship
Would take her
Are there dog treats on the Moon...
She looped the loop around the world
Then off to Mars, with a twirl
The little Martian boys and girls
Adored her
She loved the Solar System view
She swam in Neptune’s ocean blue
That furry, canine, cosmonaut explorer
Are there dog treats on the Moon…
After learning the song, we then created our own resources and artwork that could be part of the official music video!
We cannot wait to see our artwork featured in the finished music video.
If you would like to listen at home, you can find the song on Charlie’s YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@charliestunes88
A huge thank you to Charlie for sharing his talent with us. What a special experience for Team Piper. 🌟
