Creative thinking through child led play...

A Wonderful Mess!

What might look like a great big mess to us is actually full of learning opportunities for our creative bunch! The children have been loving messy play this week. We set up an ice painting tray and a vegetable cutting tray, but before long, the children decided to combine the two and began making their own “carrot cake”.

This is a great example of child-led play. The children followed their own ideas, experimented with materials and used their imagination to create something new. They were mixing, pretending, talking and working together as their play developed.

Messy play like this helps children build creativity, problem-solving skills, communication and confidence as they explore and learn through their own ideas. It was wonderful to see the children so engaged in their learning! Even if it was a big mess to clean up ha-ha!
