Topic: How Do Animals Change as They Grow?

Learning about animals and their babies!
Today we learnt about how animals grow and change over time.
We learnt a new word… mammals!
Mammals have babies, feed them milk and grow into adults — just like us!
The children enjoyed matching animals to their babies, including:
• dog → puppy
• cat → kitten
• cow → calf
They used sentences like:
“This is a puppy. It will grow into a dog.”
💬 Try this at home:
• Talk about baby animals and their names
• Look at pets or animals on walks and discuss how they grow
• Ask: “What will this baby animal grow into?”
• Writing idea: Encourage your child to draw a baby animal and write a simple sentence, e.g.
“A puppy. It will grow into a dog.”
Or just label it: calf, kid, piglet
• Remember to use Fred Fingers (from Read Write Inc) to help sound out each word on their fingers before writing
• Challenge: Can they write what changes as it grows?
“It gets bigger.” / “It can run.”
You can email these over or send them in — I will always make a fuss! ✨
