Power of Reading: Roaring into Dinosaurs!

Loving Our Power of Reading Text!

The children have been loving our Power of Reading text, A First Book of Dinosaurs, so far this term! We have been busy exploring our non-fiction text and finding out lots of interesting facts about dinosaurs.

So far, the children have been developing lots of important reading and language skills. They have been looking carefully at illustrations, sharing what they notice, asking questions and using new vocabulary linked to dinosaurs. We have also been learning that non-fiction books give us real information and can help us find out more about the world.

These skills are important because they help children to become curious, confident readers. Talking about books, asking questions and learning new words supports children’s understanding, communication and early reading skills.

Why not ask your child what they have been up to? You could ask:

What have you learnt about dinosaurs?
Can you remember any dinosaur facts?
What does non-fiction mean?
Which dinosaur has been your favourite so far?

We are so impressed with the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm!
