Bug Hunt Fun!

Exploring All Things Great and Small
As part of our topic, All Things Great and Small, Reception went on an exciting bug hunt! The children carefully explored our outdoor area, looking under logs, leaves and in the soil to see what tiny creatures they could find.
We spotted different minibeasts and talked about where they live, how they move and what they might need to survive. The children used brilliant observation skills and enjoyed sharing what they noticed with their friends.
This activity helped us think about the smallest creatures in the world around us and how important they are. It also supported our learning in Understanding the World, as well as encouraging curiosity, speaking and listening, and respect for nature.
Try at home:
Go on a mini bug hunt in your garden, at the park or on a walk. Can you find a worm, woodlouse, spider, snail or ant? Talk about where you found it and why it might like living there.
