Investigating /oa/!

This week in our spelling lessons, the children explored the poem “The Nose Can Do” from Cloud Soup by Kate Wakeling. Building on last week’s learning about long and short vowel sounds, the class investigated the /oa/ sound and searched for different examples within the poem. The children worked carefully to sort the words into groups based on their spelling patterns and began to hypothesise about how we decide which spelling to use. It was wonderful to hear the thoughtful discussions and ideas shared across the classroom. Tomorrow, the children will continue their learning by creating spelling rules for the different ways the ‘o’ sound can be spelt.
