School of Noise

A lovely, and rather noisy, afternoon!

Today, Year 4 had an exciting visit from the brilliant team at the School of Noise as part of our science learning about sound. The children explored how sound is created through vibrations and discovered how sound travels through different materials through a range of practical, hands-on investigations.

Throughout the workshop, the children experimented with a variety of unusual equipment and instruments, including listening devices, microphones and vibration experiments. They investigated pitch and volume, listened to sounds through different objects and even explored how vibrations can travel through the body.

One of the highlights of the day was creating sound effects to match video recordings. The children worked creatively in teams to recreate different noises and think carefully about how sound can help build atmosphere and tell a story. They loved experimenting with different objects and were amazed by how everyday items could create such effective sound effects.

The workshop encouraged curiosity, teamwork and creativity, with the children showing fantastic enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day. We are very grateful to School of Noise for such an inspiring and memorable experience!
