Everyday Racism meets Team Pressley

Today we learnt about different types of racism and what we can do to stop racism.

Reuben and Elsie had this to say: Our workshop leader, Benji, started to talk about how racism is bad and explained how we spot it. We played a game involving questions and jelly beans.
Being non-racist is not good enough. We need to stand up to racism – Team Pressley

Jacob said it was a great start to our Wednesday morning, learning how our skin tone is determined by melanin.

Heida and Saxen - Benji taught us to always be anti-racist and always kind to people, no matter their race.

Teddy learnt what to do if someone is racist; tell a trusted adult, report it to the police. He really enjoyed meeting Benji and now understands what racism means.

Millions of years ago, we all lived in Africa and our ancestors' skin was black, which was caused by melanin in our bodies. Overtime, people travelled which took them to places or countries and slowly that changed their features. Some people remained, which is why some people are black and some are not. The whole class were mature and hopefully enjoyed learning how to be great, welcoming, inclusive citizens.
