Flour Babies Project

Today, year 6 pupils became the proud parents of their very own flour baby...

This project runs concurrently with the SRE lessons, to demonstrate that, whilst soon their bodies may be going through puberty, they are definitely not ready to become parents. Even without the crying, nappy changes and need to feed, these flour babies represent a huge responsibility.

Here are the rules for the project - if you could reinforce these at home to really help deliver the message, that would be much appreciated:

Rule 1: The flour babies must be kept clean and dry at all times. All fraying, staining and leakage of insides will be taken very seriously indeed.

Rule 2: Flour babies will be weighed twice - at the beginning and at the end of the project. This will be to check for weight loss / gain, which may indicate casual neglect or mistreatment.

Rule 3: Flour babies cannot be left unattended. If it must be out of your sight, even for a short time, you must arrange a responsible babysitter. Babysitting can last a maximum of 2 hours per day.

Rule 4: You must keep a daily record of your time with your flour baby. Please take and email photos to record key moments at home. We will print them in school to add to your diary entries.

Rule 5: Certain persons (who shall not be named) shall make it their business to check on the welfare of your baby and the keeping of the above rules. These people may be parents, other pupils, members of staff or the public.

Finally, if you wish to make it more realistic by waking your child in the middle of the night to 'feed' or a attend a 'crying' baby that is absolutely encouraged.
