On Thursday, we attended an assembly run by Kent Fire and Rescue Service, who instructed us on how to help prevent accidental house fires...
We learnt about the safe way to charge devices such as mobile phones using the acronym 'SMART'. Having then watched a short clip, and seeing how quickly a fire can start and spread, it has certainly made me think carefully about checking my cables, placing them on hard surfaces and never charging devices overnight!
Additionally, it was good to be reminded of the importance of having a fire escape plan in place and the need to regularly check your smoke alarm. Our visitor instructed us that the fire service will attend homes free of charge – to ensure there are sufficient smoke alarms, and that they are fitted properly!
Why not ask your child if they can remember what SMART stands for in relation to fire safety.
