Division in maths

Over the last few weeks in maths, we have been looking at different methods of division, depending on the type of question...
We reviewed short division (sometimes known as the bus stop method), then explored how using factor pairs and two bus stop calculations can help us divide by two-digit numbers. For solving more difficult division questions using prime two-digit numbers, we looked at long division and 'chunking'.
Finally, we were learning how to divide (and multiply) by 10, 100 and 1000. The shortcut we have shown them is to move the decimal point, by the number of zeros (one for ten, two for a hundred etc.).
On Fridays, we undertake arithmetic papers to 'keep fresh' all the areas of maths we have covered so far. We have emphasised to the children that there will be some questions they may be unable to answer – since we have not yet covered all areas yet – but that their scores will improve over the next few terms.
