Choctastic science!

In today's Topic lesson, we used chocolate to explore states of matter!

As part of this term's focus on amazing materials, Year 5 are exploring different states of matter. We started the lesson by holding (and then eating) some chocolate. We discussed why the chocolate melted quicker in our closed palm versus our open one – leading us nicely on to melting points and what impact the energy from heat has on the particles that make up solids, resulting in the solids becoming liquids. We even did some drama – pretending to be the particles inside a solid, liquid and a gas to help us understand the difference and to define each.
