✨ EYFS Maths – Representing 4 and 5 ✨

A deeper knowledge of 4 and 5.
This week in maths we have been exploring the numbers 4 and 5, following the White Rose Maths approach. This means our learning moves slowly and purposefully, giving children the chance to build a deep and secure understanding of each number.
To support this, we played a fun subitizing game! 👀🎲
The teacher showed an amount, and the children practised subitizing (seeing a small number of objects without counting). The children then represented the number on their five frames, carefully placing counters to show what they saw.
This activity helps children to:
🔹 Recognise numbers instantly
🔹 Understand how numbers are made
🔹 Make connections between visual patterns and quantities
🔹 Build strong foundations for addition and number bonds
The children loved the challenge and showed fantastic focus and reasoning as they talked about what they saw and how they made it on their frames. 🌟
