Power of Reading – The Runaway ChapatiJungle Experience & Collaborative Painting

Jungle fun!
As part of our Power of Reading work with The Runaway Chapati, the children took part in an exciting jungle experience. We transformed the space with jungle sounds, foliage, and sensory materials to help the children imagine the setting of the story. They explored what they might see, hear, and feel in a jungle, using rich descriptive language such as tall trees, slithering snakes, rustling leaves, and creatures hiding.
Following this, the children worked together as a team to paint a large jungle scene. They shared ideas, mixed colours, and discussed where different animals and plants might belong. This activity encouraged turn-taking, cooperation, and creative thinking. Children developed their fine motor skills as they used brushes, sponges, and their hands to create texture and detail.
The experience helped deepen the children’s understanding of the story’s setting, supported their language development, and celebrated collaborative creativity.
