An Ancient Egypt Day in Year 4
Today, Year 4 travelled back in time to Ancient Egypt and took on the roles of embalmers and tomb makers. The children learned about the mummification process and carefully mummified Barbie dolls, just like ancient embalmers would have done. They discussed why mummification was important and followed the steps of wrapping the body, protecting it for the afterlife, and treating it with care and respect.
The children also designed and built tombs, thinking carefully about what an Ancient Egyptian would need in the afterlife. They added wall paintings, hieroglyphics, treasures, and special objects to help the pharaoh on their journey, linking their learning to both history and art.
We finished the day with lots of parents joining us for Art to Start, where the children painted their cartouches using traditional colours and symbols. The costumes were absolutely amazing and really brought the day to life – thank you for all your efforts and support!
