STEAM Week: Exploring Coding in Team Piper...

First time using iPads at school!

Today as part of STEAM Week we explored coding. We talked about how coding is not just for the big kids and that even our youngest learners can start to understand how it works.

We used a simple and child friendly game called CodeMonkey Jr. The children had lots of fun giving instructions, spotting mistakes and working out what needed to happen next. They were developing important skills like sequencing, problem solving and logical thinking without even realising they were coding.

Why Is Learning About Coding Important?

Learning about coding helps children build digital literacy, which means understanding how technology works rather than just using it. Coding also supports problem solving, resilience and creativity. Children learn that it is ok to make mistakes and try again, and that there can be more than one way to solve a problem.

Try It at Home

You can play this game at home too. Follow the link below and click “Start Playing” to give it a go together.

We loved seeing the children so engaged and confident today and we cannot wait to continue our STEAM learning.
