STEAM Day 2 - K'Nex
Another engineering project today, in the form of K'Nex...
Using K'NEX, a popular construction toy system using rods and connectors to build models, the children were given a design brief: to design and build a model for a new piece of apparatus in our school playground.
To begin with, the children were given free time to explore using K'nex so that they gained an understanding of what it could do, before working as a team to design a new piece of playground apparatus. Once completed, they used collaboration to realise their brief.
The children really enjoyed this project and worked brilliantly to build some truly amazing models. Please have a look at the attached images for each group's final piece.
Additionally today, the children learnt about the heart from an expert... a Cardiac Clinical Scientist. She kindly explained the process of how the heart worked and demonstrated different types of heart beat through the medium of dance. As well as being great fun and educational, it will really help with our English writing next week!
Finally, in Computing within the Arts Curriculum, we looked at coding. Helping BB8 and RS-D2 navigate maps and achieve goals through block coding was again educational but hugely entertaining!
An action-packed second day of STEAM week... and we still have three more days to go!
