Future engineers!

Our Trip to Cummins

We had a fantastic time on our recent visit to Cummins, where the children enjoyed a brilliant day of hands-on learning and real-world engineering experiences.

The trip began with a tour around the Cummins office, giving pupils an insight into what a modern engineering workplace looks like and the wide range of roles involved. One of the highlights was viewing a generator up close, where the children learned how engineers design and build machines that power everyday life.

We also explored 3D printing, which sparked lots of curiosity and thoughtful questions. Pupils were fascinated to see how designs can be turned into physical objects and loved learning how this technology is used in engineering and manufacturing.

The children also became engineers themselves! Using K’NEX, they worked collaboratively to design and build structures, problem-solve, and test their ideas. This led perfectly into building large marble runs, where teamwork, creativity, and perseverance were on full display. There was plenty of excitement as designs were adjusted to make the marbles run slower, smoother, and further.

The children represented the school wonderfully throughout the visit and showed excellent behaviour, enthusiasm, and curiosity. A huge thank you to the parents who joined us and supported the trip – we couldn’t have done it without you. We are also very grateful to the team at Cummins for such an engaging and inspiring experience.

It was a memorable day that brought learning to life and inspired many future engineers!
