Doubles in Team Piper!

Today in maths we learned about finding double...
We know that double means twice as many. We said this together and practised explaining what it means.
Step one: Partner one found a Numicon piece.
Step two: Partner two found the same Numicon piece.
Step three: We put them together and said what double that number is.
The children worked brilliantly with their partners, checking carefully that the pieces matched and talking through their thinking.
Key questions we explored
• What does double mean?
• Where can you see a double?
• Is this a double or not a double? How do you know?
• What is double ___?
Sentence stems we used
• I have found double ____
• Double ____ is ____
You could practise this at home using small objects such as pasta, toys or socks. Find a number, then find the same amount again. Put them together and say the double.
We are becoming more confident mathematicians every day.
