Love to Learn

Year 4 recently joined an online event hosted by the British Library featuring children’s author and poet Michael Rosen. The session explored stories and poems about food, with Michael and other storytellers sharing entertaining tales and discussing how everyday food experiences can inspire writing. Pupils also enjoyed a draw-along activity with an illustrator, learning how to sketch characters and food from the stories.

Inspired by this, we are challenging year 4 to create their own food-themed stories or poems! Children can choose to create fictional tales featuring rich descriptions of imaginary feasts or meals. Perhaps the food becomes a character in the story or it might be an inanimate object that is an integral part of the story. Or this could be a non-fiction retelling of a favourite meal you have had or an information text about a cultural tradition.

We would love you to write your drafts and edits into your love to learn book. You could then choose to find an interesting way to publish it either inside or separate to your book. We can’t wait to read what you create!
