Multiplication Check

Next term, our Year 4 pupils will be taking part in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)—a national assessment that looks at how fluently children can recall their times tables up to 12 × 12. The check will take place during Term 6 (Monday 1st June – Friday 12th June).

The MTC is a short online check made up of 25 questions, with 6 seconds to answer each one. It’s designed to build confidence and help us identify any areas where children may need a little extra support as they move into Year 5.

To help the children feel confident and ready, we will be continuing to practise regularly in class—and we would really appreciate your support at home too. Even just a few minutes a day can make a big difference! Quick-fire questions, chanting times tables, and using online games are all great ways to build fluency. We particularly recommend Times Tables Rock Stars for fun and effective practice.

To make things even more exciting, we will also be running weekly Times Tables Rock Stars tournaments! Children will compete to earn points for their class, and we will be celebrating:

• The winning class each week
• Children who make the most progress
• Children who show fantastic effort and determination

And of course—there will be hot chocolate and prizes for our winners! ☕
