Roman Numerals

To help prepare for the upcoming SATS, we have been looking at reasoning questions from past papers. During one of these sessions, it became clear that the children were a little unsure about Roman Numerals...

Consequently, on Thursday, we had a stand-alone lesson to fill this gap. We looked at the basic letters that are used as the building blocks for creating Roman numbers as well as the 'rule of 3'. We explored how the numbers are made using the different columns – so making the thousands, the hundreds, the tens and the ones separately.

The children then had lots of opportunities to practise with a partner in matching numbers, before translating from one way and then the other.
