Art to Start

Drawing with music

For our Art to Start lesson, we listened to music from Pirates of the Caribbean, performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

The music was powerful, dramatic and full of adventure. While we listened, we used oil pastels to draw what we could hear and feel.

  • Loud parts inspired bold colours and strong lines
  • Quieter parts led to softer colours and gentle shapes

This helped us understand that:

  • Music can create pictures in our minds
  • Sound can make us feel different emotions
  • We can represent sound through art in our own unique way
