Guided reading this week
Within our Guided Reading sessions this week, we have been encouraging the children to share strategies for answering reading comprehension questions...
The children worked with their talk partner to discuss how to answer the questions from a previous paper – focusing on a different text each lesson. Rather than just tell them the answer, each pair was asked to discuss how they approached each question and where to look for the correct response. They then recorded these answers in an answer booklet.
At the end of the week, we went through the answers – referencing the mark scheme, so the children could see the sort of guidance that the adults marking the paper would be given.
The main purpose of this was to help prepare the children for the types of questions they will face innext week and equip them with the best methods for approaching these types of test papers.
