Mexico: Then and Now

We began our final topic at RAPS in the usual fashion - with an awesome Art2Start...
For the children's last topic, we will be exploring Mexico: Then and Now. Initially, the topic takes on a historical slant, where we examine the ancient Maya Civilisation - which was situated in modern-day Mexico. In particular, we shall look at their beliefs, their everyday life and understanding the locations of their major cities. Afterwards, we shift our focus to modern Mexico - learning key facts, before understanding cultural events and the natural geography. Our Art to Start focussed on the 'Day of the Dead' festival and their decorative skulls. Looking at examples, we highlighted the use of bright colours, floral patterns and symmetry as common themes, so tried to incorporate these ideas into our own designs.
