Microhabitats

Today Year 2 looked for microhabitats in the school playground. We found lots of different kinds - grass, moss, leaves, logs, bits of wood and even bits of concrete. We talked about the conditions found in the microhabitats and whether they were dry or damp, cool or warm and dark or light. We also talked about the creatures that might live in each one. We spotted a few minibeasts: several different types of spider, a beetle and a ladybird.

Why not have a look for some microhabitats at home? You could look in your garde, if you have one, or in bushes and grass verges on the way to and from school.
