Sleepyheads in Reception: Exploring the Magic of Bedtime

Today in Reception, we spent time learning all about the importance of sleep and how it helps our bodies and minds rest and grow.

We began by looking at a selection of objects that Mrs. Cole brought in. As a class, we worked together to sort them into two groups:

  • Things that might help us get to sleep (like a cuddly toy, nightlight, or calming music)

  • Things that might interfere with sleep (like screens, noisy toys, or sugary snacks)

This sparked some great discussion about bedtime routines and how we can get ready for a good night's rest.

To continue the calming theme, we enjoyed a lovely, relaxing afternoon:

  • Hand baths to help us feel calm and refreshed

  • Listening to the Toniebox, which played gentle, soothing sounds

  • Colouring and book reading for some quiet, peaceful time

  • And even the adults wore their pyjamas, making it a cosy and comforting experience!

We ended the day by listening to a relaxing audio story, perfect for winding down. You can listen to it at home too—just before bedtime:
