More Than One Way to Sort...

Sort, Sort, Hooray!

Team Piper have been exploring how the same objects can be sorted in lots of different ways. First, we practised sorting by one attribute such as colour, then we tried again using size or shape. The children enjoyed explaining how they had sorted and then challenging themselves to find another way to sort the same set. Well done Team Piper!

If you want to try this at home… Gather a small collection of objects (like buttons, Lego, leaves, coins, or toy cars). Ask your child to sort them one way, then challenge them to think of a different way to sort the same group. For example, they might sort by:

  • Colour (red / not red, blue / yellow / green)

  • Size (big / small)

  • Shape (round / square)

  • Type (cars / animals, or coins / buttons)
