Today in Maths: Comparing Mass! ⚖️

Exploring heavy and light through hands-on fun and investigation!

oday in maths, Team Piper explored how to compare objects by weight (mass). We learned to use the words heavy and light and discovered that big isn’t always heavy and small isn’t always light — which really made us think!

We started by making predictions about which objects would be heavier or lighter, then tested them using our hands and even tried a human balance scale! Afterwards, we used real balance scales on our tables to find out which items were heavier and which were lighter.

The children used fantastic mathematical language like:
💬 “The shell is lighter than the pasta shell!”
💬 “The rock is heavier than the cork!”

It was lovely to see everyone so enthusiastic and curious — testing, talking, and discovering just how much fun comparing mass can be!
