Some of our Reception children will now be bringing home their very first reading books!  These books are sent home once children can confidently blend sounds together to read simple words like cat, dog or sun.

If your child has brought a book home, please enjoy reading it together, practise daily, and return it in their book bag each day. Don’t forget to jot down how they got on in their reading record, this helps us celebrate and support their progress!

If your child hasn’t received a book just yet, please don’t worry. Every child learns at their own pace, and they’ll bring one home as soon as they’re ready to blend sounds confidently. In the meantime, you can keep practising blending with a fun listening game at home,  try sounding out words in your daily routines:
👕 “Where’s your c-oa-t?”
🗑️ “Pop it in the b-i-n!”
See if your child can blend the sounds together to say the whole word!
