🎨 Making Our Mark in Art!

What kinds of marks can we make with a paintbrush? 🎨
Today in Art, the children built on from their beautiful leaf work and explored mark making. Using paintbrushes, they experimented with different ways to make marks such as long strokes, short dabs, dots, swirls and lines. Together, we talked about how to hold a paintbrush carefully and how the way we move our hands changes the marks we make. The children loved noticing the patterns and textures they could create, and it was lovely to see them using so much control and creativity in their work. This links to the EYFS area of Expressive Arts and Design, where children explore using media and materials and develop their imaginative and expressive skills. It also supports Physical Development as they strengthen their fine motor control and coordination. Why not ask your child what kind of marks they made today – were they lines, dots or swirls?
