A Great Maths Challenge for Team Piper 🔢⭐

I am so proud of Team Piper. Today we had a GREAT maths lesson.

We have been learning about adding one more to numbers 6, 7 and 8. This is something we have practised lots and the children have had plenty of experience using ten frames. Because they were feeling so confident, I decided to give them a challenge.

Could they write their own number sentences?

The children rose to the challenge brilliantly. They showed fantastic number knowledge, careful thinking and great perseverance. I was so impressed with how confidently they explained their thinking. You absolutely smashed it Team Piper.

If you would like to try this at home, this is how we did it in class:

Step 1 Pick a number
Step 2 Build the number
Step 3 Add one more

The children used the sentence stem:
First I had ____ then I added one more now I have ____.
