  • Ice Ice Baby

    Published 16/01/26, by Lauren Merry

This week in Child-Initiated Play, our theme has been “Ice Ice Baby”, where we’ve been exploring all things winter and ice.

We’ve loved getting hands-on with lots of icy activities. We painted ice blocks with flowers frozen inside, carefully watching the colours melt and mix. We worked together to free frozen toys from the ice, trying different tools and ideas to break them out. We also spent time doing observational drawings, looking closely at what we could see and recording the details we noticed.

These activities helped us practise our creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, all while having lots of fun. We’ve really enjoyed exploring ice and winter through our play!

  • Imaginations Take Flight

    Published 14/01/26, by Lauren Merry

We studied an artist called Alan Innman who creates fantasy worlds by using a toy or figure and bringing a toy to life with bright and vibrant colours. We created our own imaginary backgrounds around a picture of our favourite toys. We added lots of details to our drawings, just like Alan Innman. After drawing the fantasy world around our toy with a pencil, we choose bold colours to make our creations bright and vibrant.

  • Special Books in Team Morris

    Published 13/01/26, by Rebecca Morris

This Term in RE, we focused on special books. In particular, we focused on the Bible, Torah and Qu'ran. When studying the Torah, we made our own scrolls, with illustrations showing Moses scribing the ten commandments! Then, we acted out the story of Noah's Ark from the Christian Bible (even singing the song)  and then illustrated how Muslims look after the Qu'ran.

  • Who Can Help Me If I Am Worried?

    Published 09/01/26, by Lauren Merry

We have been learning all about worries and how it is okay to feel worried sometimes. We talked about how being worried is a normal feeling, and that there are things we can do to help ourselves when we feel this way.

We also learnt about who can help us if we are worried, such as trusted adults at home and at school. To help us remember, we made lolly stick people showing someone we could talk to if we were feeling worried.

After that, we role-played what we might say to these people to share our worries. This helped us practise using our words and feel more confident about asking for help when we need it.

It was a thoughtful and important lesson, and we were so proud of how kind, open, and caring everyone was during our learning.

  • Special Delivery from the Elves...

    Published 17/12/25, by Lauren Merry

On Monday, we wrote letters to our elves, telling them all about our favourite cheeky things they had been getting up to in our classroom. We loved remembering all the silly surprises they had left for us!

We couldn’t believe it when we got a reply — the elves sent us a video of their favourite cheeky moments! We were so excited and laughed so much while watching it together.

The elves must have seen how much we loved it because they surprised us again by sending us another video! What a magical and exciting surprise it was.

  • A Cosy Christmas Day in Team Morris

    Published 17/12/25, by Lauren Merry

We had the BEST day celebrating Christmas Pyjama Day! We loved coming into school wearing our cosy pyjamas and starting the day feeling super festive.

We had lots of fun making Christmas cards, and then we watched the film 'The Nativity' — it was very fancy (a bit fancier than ours!), and we loved joining in with “Sparkle and Shine” right at the end.

We were so lucky because we even got to enjoy hot chocolates and snacks, which made the day feel extra special.

Miss Merry, Miss Morris, Miss Easton and Miss Fields are all so proud of us for being wonderful, kind, and festive Year 1 children! 🎅✨

  • A Magical Grotto Visit

    Published 16/12/25, by Lauren Merry

We were so lucky because we got to visit Santa’s Grotto! When we arrived, we had to sing a song to wake Father Christmas up, and it worked! He came to see us and even read us a story, which we loved listening to together.

Santa’s elves were very cheeky, making us laugh and adding to the magic of the visit. It felt very special and exciting to be there.

When we got back to our classrooms, we were amazed to find that we each had a present waiting for us! We felt so grateful and incredibly lucky to have met Father Christmas.

What a truly magical experience we will always remember! ✨🎄

We loved performing our nativity today! We worked so hard and we are so proud of ourselves and each other. We made all our grown-ups feel very proud as we sang our hearts out and spoke loudly and clearly.

Everyone was so brave on stage, and it was wonderful to see all our smiles as we performed. What a special way to share the Christmas story together!
