To match our Topic of "Animals and us", we shall be creating animal collages inspired by Peter Clark. We shall be using maps, wrapping paper, newspaper and letters to create colourful pictures of animals. Our Art to Start will be taking place on Monday 27th April 2026 at 2:15. We would love to see you all there!

This term, Year 1 will be studying the topic ‘Animals and Us’ where we will be exploring the features of different animals, learning about the different animal groups and how we are different from animals. To enhance this learning, we will be taking the children to the Powell-Cotton Museum on Thursday 14th May . This will be an exciting trip to bring their learning to life.
Full school uniform must be worn and suitable shoes for walking. Please send your child in with a sun hat and waterproof coat as we will be visiting the beautiful gardens during our visit too. The trip will take place within normal school hours, so please ensure your child is at school by 8:30am and collected at 3pm. If we are running late the school will keep you informed. A Free School Packed Lunch will be provided by the school, although you are of course welcome to send them with a home packed lunch. Please ensure they have a water bottle in school for the day too.

This term, we will be going to the library on Thursday 30th April. We love going to the library to discover new books. Please remember to bring library cards so children can take out books. Please make sure you return any books prior to their next library visit.
Team Merry will be going at 10:15 and Team Morris at 1:45.

This term's Art to Start was inspired by David Hockney.
Reminder: Team Morris are going to forest school every Thursday. They will need appropriate clothing, especially waterproof shoes and long sleeves. It is currently muddy at the Copse. We are so excited and can't wait to explore the Copse.
This term, we're creating some weather art.
We took part in Hour of Code and became real-life programmers! We used a computing game called Rodocodo, where we learnt how to program movement, rotation, and grabbing to complete different challenges.
We had to think really carefully about the instructions we gave. If something didn’t work, we didn’t give up — we debugged our code, fixed our mistakes, and tried again. It felt amazing when our character finally did exactly what we told it to do!
We showed brilliant problem-solving, perseverance, and logical thinking skills. Some of the challenges were tricky, but we kept going and helped each other like a team of expert coders.
Our project for STEAM Week is all about puppets, and we have absolutely loved it! We enjoyed watching different types of puppet shows, including shadow puppets, hand puppets and marionettes. It was so exciting to see how each type of puppet moves in a different way.
After that, we had the chance to explore puppets ourselves and put on our own puppet shows! We had so much fun giving our puppets silly voices, dramatic voices and even whispery voices, and making them move in funny and creative ways.
We have now designed our very own puppets and can’t wait to start making them on Thursday.
Parents and carers are very welcome to come in and help us on Thursday between 1pm and 3pm — we’d love to see you there!
We were very lucky to have a visit from Dr Hollie Burrell-Saward, who came to teach us all about microbes. We learnt about different types of germs, including bacteria and viruses, and how they can spread from person to person.
We took part in a fun experiment using special “glow” cream on our hands to see how quickly germs can spread. After that, we washed our hands carefully and checked them under a special light. If our hands were still glowing, it meant we hadn’t washed all the germs away!
It was so interesting to see how important it is to wash our hands properly, and we had lots of fun learning how to keep ourselves healthy.
