Personal Development: Big Question: How can we work together to create a collage?
This week, Yr 2 have been learning about different plants that live in local habitats. Today, we got outside to draw and name some plants on the playground and field. We learnt lots of plant names and enjoyed comparing some different plants.
We've had a great time in Yr 2 writing our follow-on narratives for The Lonely Beast. We designed a friend for the Beast and imagined what they would do together. We thought carefully about constructing verbs and adverbs to describe what activities they'd do together. We then wrote our story over 3 lessons and edited our work.
After we had published our stories, we had a writing celebration where we read each other's work and enjoyed eating cakes (just like the beast). Ask us about our story.
On Wednesday 20th May, Year 1 and 2 will be taking part in the Viking Games at Chilton with children from across the Viking Academy Trust.
Viking Games is a fun sporting event where children work in teams and take part in a range of different activities and challenges. It is a lovely opportunity for the children to be active, show teamwork and enjoy representing RAPS.
Children will need to come to school wearing their house-coloured top and their PE kit clothes.
Please also make sure your child brings:
A named water bottle
A hat if it is sunny
A named jumper and coat if it's cold
Parents are not able to watch this event, but we will share photos after the event.
Today, Year 2 learnt about measuring in metres. We discussed how 1 metre is equal to 100 centimetres and explored when and why we use metres for measuring larger objects. The children became measurement explorers and measured the height and length of different things around the classroom, including doors, display boards, baskets, books and chairs! We even measured the length of the classroom and the height of our adults! Year 2 had to identify whether objects were greater than 1 metre and less than 1 metre – which was lots of fun! Why not test us!
We love visiting the library in Year 2 - especially because we love exploring and reading new texts so very much! Thank you to all of our parents and carers who were able to volunteer their time yesterday during our Term 5 visit! Happy reading, Team A-W!
See attached this week's spellings!
Year 2 finished reading their core text, The Lonely Beast, last week and started to work on their own storyboards and story maps. Drawing together simple sentences, different sentence openers, key punctuation and their own illustrations, the children in Year 2 have produced some incredible work that they are rightly very proud of! Ask them all about it - if they were to create their own Beast story, what would it be about?
Please find attached Term 5's next set of spellings! Don't forget, you can always hand in your spelling sheets for house points and that our spelling test is every Friday morning!
