As part of our topic Homes and Habitats, we investigated food chains. We learnt some new vocabulary to help us identify the producers and consumers in food chains of various environments.
We did some outdoor learning...
Year 2 have started to read Meerkat Mail this week and are loving learning about meerkats! As we are going to be writing our own non-chronological reports in the form of a fact file this term, we have started to research facts about meerkats to use this week! Why not ask us if we can share our growing knowledge with you? After all, we are now the meerkat experts!
Our amazing Year 2s voted for their Junior Leadership Team representatives yesterday afternoon, discussing links to democracy again whilst choosing classmates to help share ideas and make positive changes across the school. To all those not elected, we loved seeing you all show such amazing resilience and supporting your peers with kindness! Congratulations to our new reps!
Year 2 have been working on some incredible storyboards and narrative retelling this week! We have even started to explore using a purple pen to edit. Tomorrow, we take on the challenge of being a teacher and checking and revising ourselves! What fun!
We have started to compare objects and 1 and 2-digit numbers up to 100 this week! We know to check the tens column first before looking at the ones. To practise comparing different numbers, we collaborated with talk partners, each building different numbers and then deciding together which symbol we would use! Why not test us?

Today, we read the rest of our wonderful first core text of the year, 'The Snail and the Whale'. We then reordered the key events of the story into chronological order using time connectives such as ‘first’, ‘then’ and ‘after that’ to order each section of the story. In small groups, we acted out the key events of the story, and had a choice to narrate the story or act it out as each of the characters. This was lots of fun, and we were able to use our great drama skills to retell our narrative. Ask us all about it!
During our Thrive lesson, we read a book called 'If I Built a House' by Chris Van Dusen. We collaborated in small groups to design our own dream houses. There were some very imaginative rooms full of trampolenes, roller coasters and ice cream machines!
On Friday afternoon, we created some stunning artwork inspired by Daniel Mackie, an illustrator who draws detailed habitats inside the shapes of various creatures. We discussed the colours used and we thought carefully about the habitats some animals in our local area live in as well! Have a look at our wonderful work when it goes up on our classroom walls! Well done, Year 2!
We are visiting the library on Monday.
