Plate tectonics!
We learnt that the Earth's surface (crust) is always moving and is broken into giant pieces, like a cracked eggshell. These are called tectonic plates. When plates move towards each other it’s called a convergent boundary, and this can make mountains or volcanoes. When plates move away from each other it’s called a divergent boundary, and this makes new land, often under the sea. When plates slide past each other it’s called a transform boundary, and this movement can cause earthquakes. We demonstrated our knowledge of plate tectonics using oreo cookies as the model - we loved eating these after!
Ask me to explain the different types of plate boundary!
