Positives and pitfalls of AI

Online Safety Day 2026 – Exploring AI: Positives and Pitfalls

As part of Online Safety Day 2026, our students took part in a special online lesson focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The session explored both the exciting opportunities AI offers and the potential risks to be aware of.

Students learnt how AI is used in everyday life – from search engines and virtual assistants to recommendations on apps and games. We discussed the positive ways AI can support learning, creativity, and problem-solving. At the same time, we explored important safety considerations, including misinformation, deepfakes, privacy concerns, bias in AI systems, and the importance of thinking critically about AI-generated content.

A key message from the lesson was that while AI can be a powerful and helpful tool, it is important to use it responsibly and to question what we see and read online. Students were encouraged to talk to a trusted adult if they are ever unsure about something they encounter online.

We encourage families to continue the conversation at home by asking children what they know about AI and discussing how it can be used safely and responsibly.
