School of Sound - TM

Yesterday we took part in an amazing workshop with School of Noise.

Yesterday we took part in an amazing workshop with School of Noise. The children explored the science of sound and discovered how it is used in different ways around the world. They learned about sound design for electric cars and films, how sound can help put out fires, and how it plays an important role in building design.

The workshop helped pupils understand that sound is made through vibrations and introduced them to key concepts such as pitch and volume. They also learned how sound travels and what happens when it reaches our ears, including how sound can be absorbed or reflected.

There was plenty of excitement as the children experimented with a wide range of equipment. This included Chladni plates, where vibrations create patterns in sand, musical instruments such as a theremin and an omnichord, tuning forks, and a model of the human ear. One of the highlights was using fruits and vegetables to create musical sounds simply by touching them!

The workshop was highly engaging, hands-on, and a lot of fun, leaving the children with a deeper understanding of sound and how it affects the world around us.
