Personal Development Week

Personal Development has dominated the first week back at school...

We have explored our school value of 'Kindness' - with an emphasis on how we can be kind to ourselves, as well as others. Furthermore, we have looked at one of our core British Values – democracy. We unpicked what this meant before looking at the role and make-up of the Houses of Parliament.

Following this, we investigated different ways in which it may be possible to help out in our community – both now and later in life, when the pupils become adults.

Within the classroom, we also had a fabulous debate about the idea of censorship and whether classic texts, such as those by Roald Dahl should be altered or adapted as our societal opinions adapt over time. There were some exceptional arguments and there were some children who did a brilliant job of presenting a viewpoint that they themselves do not prescribe to: an excellent ability in pupils at this age!

Over the week, we also explored Hindu stories, looking at some of the messages behind them and how they can help people of any faith.
