First forays at Year 6 writing

Using our class text 'Street Child' as inspiration, we have begun looking at writing strategies this week...

We have looked at ways in which we can add detail to our writing. The most simple is through a 2AD sentence - where we add a couple of adjectives to each of the nouns. We also explored using openers as a means of expressing the emotions of our characters: this could take the form of a 3_ed or a 2 pair opening. Finally, we rehearsed using an O.(I.) sentence where we show what the character is doing on the outside, whilst describing what they are actually thinking inside.

Finally, we used the principle of the '5 finger' paragraph as a way of grouping and developing our ideas within our writing.

Already, the children are beginning to incorporate these ideas into their writing!
