Kent Life Visit
On Tuesday, Year 6 visited the Museum of Kent Life for a special Victorian-themed day...
There were a number of workshops where the children learned about how to make a rug to keep the homes warm in the winter. Children used 'bodgers' to feed scraps of rag through a piece of hessian sack. Next we 'met' Florence Nightingale who explained how she revolutionised the care of sick and wounded soldiers during the Crimean war, before we were shown around a Victorian farm house. Afterwards, we had a go at being servants and discovered what was required to maintain a large house before taking on the role of shop-keepers with Victorian shopping.
For many children, their favourite activity was the Victorian school room - where they got to write on slates, recite the alphabet and told about punishments available to teachers back then!
A brilliant day was had by all - one where we learned a huge amount to build on the learning in the classroom this term.
